Fusion of impulses (by Robert Cross)
One of the most inspirational figures on the Kansai dance scene for the past few years has been dancer, choreographer and teacher, Heidi S. Durning. Her unique fusion of impulses from Western Contemporary Dance and Traditional Japanese Dance, along with her passion for working with artists from diverse backgrounds has resulted in a performance style that is not only technically accomplished and disciplined but also rich in texture and vibrancy.

Born to Swiss and Japanese parents, Heidi originated Mau Dance series through which Japanese Traditional Artists collaborate with Contemporary Artists in various ways. Along with her own series, Heidi has performed with other groups such as:
Japanesque Kabuki (Traditional Kabuki performed by actors and actresses of multi-nationalities - directed by Mitsuko Unno) Noho Theatre (Tradtional Kyogen, Noh, and Contemporary actors, actresses and dancers recreating Shakespeare, Beckett etc. Theatre - directed by Jonah Salz.

Parnassus Dance Theatre (A multi-ethnic dance theatre company recreating original fusion works)
Ann Arbor Dance Works (A Modern Dance Company originated from the University of Michigan Dance Department)
Heidi is also a member of D-Com, a free-flowing organization of dance artists based in Japan to allow further communication, support and collaboration opportunities.
