Kyoto Prefecture recently established a home page on the Internet to help make information about Kyoto more accessible to the world.
The contents of the home page include overviews of the seventeen shrines and temples in the Kyoto area that have been designated as World Cultural Legacies by UNESCO, transportation methods that can be used to reach Kyoto from major cities in Japan and abroad, a historical calendar of Kyoto from 544 AD (the year the Aoi Festival first began) to the present, and major projects undertaken by the prefecture, such as the Kansai Science City and the Kyoto Reception Hall. The Information Systems Division of Kyoto Prefecture states that it will increase the amount of administrative information and the number of topics about the prefecture, and that in the future it would like to be able to use the Internet to receive proposals from residents of the prefecture and also use it as a forum for discussion and debates concerning prefectural matters. |
