Starting April 1 at Miidera Temple in Otsu

The Spring Light-Up will begin April 1 and continue until April 17. This is an established custom along the Biwako Canal and at the Miidera Temple (Onjo-ji) of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, a place famous for its cherry blossoms.
The night sky is filled with cherry blossoms in full bloom and the historic scenery seems to float into the air. This is the 10th year for this event, which has been planned so that visitors to the area can enjoy the charm of the night view and experience something different from what they can see in the daytime. It is estimated that approximately 30,000 people will visit the area during the event. Admission to Miidera Temple and parking are free during the hours of illumination (6:30 to 9:30 p.m.). At 7:00 p.m. on April 6, a free concert entitled "Evening Cherry Blossom Concert" will be given by singer Satoshi Ikeda at the square in front of the Kannondo Hall on the temple grounds. Nearby Nagara Park will also be holding "Evening Cherry Blossom Viewing" from April 1 to April 14, sponsored by the Municipal Tourism Association. During this time visitors will be able to enjoy the park's cherry blossoms lit by traditional paper-covered bonbori lanterns. |
