History of Four-panel Cartoon on Show Special Exhibition in Nakagyo Ward
On August 22, a special exhibition titled "Yonkoma Manga no Rekishi -- Hokusai kara 'Moe' made," or history of four-panel cartoon, from Hokusai to infatuation, opened in the Kyoto International Manga Museum, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, showing a world of laughter spread across four frames.
From Japanese style books with pictures of party tricks using food by the Edo Period "Ukiyo-e" woodblock print artist Hokusai Katsushika, to magazines and newspapers with the newest Yonkoma Manga, including the works of Hisaichi Ishii, there are around 80 exhibits on display.
An original drawing of "Fuku-chan," drawn by Ryuichi Yokoyama during the Second World War, features a child and a warship, and reveals scenes of that period. The exhibition will continue until December 13. Entry is 500 yen for adults, and 100 yen for elementary school children.
