To spread the charm of "Dai 49-kai Uji-gawa Hanabi Taikai," or the 49th Fireworks Display at the Uji River, an official website was launched this year for the first time by the executive committee comprised of Uji City, Uji City Tourist Association and Uji Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The display will be held on August 10, and the event will be broadcast live via the Internet so even people in remote areas can enjoy the fireworks.

"Machi Zukuri Netto, Uji," a specified nonprofit organization for Uji City development, which experimented with an Internet broadcast last year, was commissioned to build and administer the website. Information on the site includes the history of the event, which began as the city's 10th anniversary celebration, as well as the event program and a map of the area around the event site. Access information from Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo is also included.

The live broadcast will be from a camera installed in the Kyoto Prefecture Yamashiro NPO Partnership Center at Uji-bashi Nishi-zume. It is near the launch site, so strong images of the large-scale fireworks against the night sky can be enjoyed.
