3,000 Maple Trees Emerge at Night Eikando Illuminated from November 7
A lighting equipment test for the nighttime special exhibition "Momiji no Light-up," or maple tree illumination event, was run at Eikando, or Zenrin-ji Temple, in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, on the night of November 4. Maple leaves, which have begun to turn red, brightened up the precinct in the quiet evening.
Every autumn, approximately 3,000 maple trees are lit up for the autumnal nighttime special exhibition at Eikando. A total of 650 lights were again placed in the garden this year, and 480 of those are light-emitting diodes, LED, used in order to reduce electrical power consumption.
Lit up by floodlights, Tahoto pagoda and Miei-do emerged from the darkness in the precincts. Maple leaves were lit up from below by warm-colored lighting in the garden, and the trees and stone bridges were reflected on the surface of Hojo pond.
The nighttime special exhibition will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., November 7 through November 30. There is an admission fee. The peak for autumn leaves is expected to be in late-November as usual.
