Locally-Known Places for Foreign Visitors
English Page Added on Higashiyama Ward's Website

Higashiyama Ward Office has added an English page to its tourist website "Aruite Tanoshimu Higashiyama," or enjoy strolling in Higashiyama, in an effort to broadcast Higashiyama Ward's appeal, which is only known to local residents, to foreign tourists visiting Kyoto.

The website section "Higashiyama de Tanoshimu," or Enjoy Higashiyama, to which residents serve as correspondents and provide information and articles, has been translated into English. Now, eight noted places' articles, including "Origin of the Place Name 'Yasaka'" and the 80-shaku, or 24 meters, tall "Ryozen-Kannon," all of which are associated with "8," are posted in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of the ward.

Information provided by residents is translated in order to differentiate the section from other English versions of tourist websites. The ward staff said, "We hope foreign visitors also enjoy in-depth sightseeing which is not introduced in any guidebook."
