Maple Leaves Loom against Illumination
Ishiyama-dera Temple's Lighting Test

The autumn evening admission period for Ishiyama-dera Temple in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, where Murasaki Shikibu, a Heian Period noblewoman, reportedly constructed the plot of the "Tale of Genji," started on November 21. Prior to the opening, a lighting equipment test was conducted on November 19, and the precincts' maple leaves, which are reaching their peak, were beautifully lit up.

Ishiyama-dera Temple began the late-autumn illumination last year. Lanterns are placed along the temple's maple-lined approach, leading visitors to the main hall with soft lights. In front of the Tahoto pagoda, maple leaves and wollastonite rocks were illuminated to produce an atmosphere of tranquility.

The evening admission is from 5:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. until November 29, with entrance allowed until 8:00p.m. The evening special admission fee is 500 yen. During this period, music performances will be held daily from 6:30p.m. at the main hall. For more information, call "Ishiyama Kanko Kyokai," or Ishiyama tourist association, at 077-537-1105.
