Kenninji Temple as Motif
Kyoto City Renews Public Relations Posters

Kyoto City renewed its design for posters, that are known for their catch phrase "Nihon ni Kyoto ga Atte Yokatta," or it's good Japan has Kyoto, and started posting them in Kyoto City and the Tokyo Metropolitan area from October 5. The posters' motif is a photograph of Kenninji Temple in Higashiyama Ward, providing a composed atmosphere.

The poster series began in December 2003, and this year marks its 14th installment. About 4,100 copies were printed. The attraction of Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, as well as cultural properties, is condensed into this poster in which a replica of "Fujin Raijin zu Byobu," or folding screen featuring the Wind God and Thunder God, a national treasure owned by the temple, is placed in the center in a landscape featuring the courtyard of the temple's main hall.

The posters have been placed in subway cars and city buses, as well as major subway stations in Tokyo. They have also been sent to elementary, junior high and high schools which are planning to visit Kyoto during their school excursions.
