"Kyoto's Maples" Shine in Rain Autumn Leaves at Jissoin Temple
Tree leaves have begun to turn red as autumn advances in Kyoto City. On October 26, the colored leaves of some maples at Jissoin Temple, Iwakura, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, became more brilliant in the drizzling rain, and visitors could feel the change of seasons.
According to the Kyoto Local Meteorological Observatory, the lowest temperature on that morning was 15.1 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees higher than in an average year. Although the temperature dropped to around 13 degrees Celsius during one week in mid-October, warmer-than-usual days have continued since then.
Approximately 200 maples and other trees are planted in the precincts of Jissoin Temple. Although most of the leaves are still green, leaves of several maples planted in the guest hall's garden have already turned bright red as the temperature differences between night and day have been greater than that in the center of Kyoto.
The Kyoto Botanical Garden stated that the autumn leaves in Kyoto City are expected to be at their best from late October to mid-November as usual.
