Mibu-dera Temple's Main Hall Opens
Until March 22

The main hall of Mibu-dera Temple in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, has been specially opened to the public until March 22.

"Jizo Bosatsu Ritsu-zo," or standing statue of Ksitigarbha, an Important Cultural Property and the principal image of the temple, is enshrined in the main hall. The statue is estimated to be from the Heian Period and to be one of the oldest extant statues in Japan. Also open to the public are the cultural assets exhibition room with the picture of Ten Kings of Hell on display, and the rock garden, which is notable for its stone formation representing a waterfall.

Public viewing is from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. There is a 600 yen entrance fee. For more information, contact the Kyoto City Tourist Association at 075-752-0227 (Japanese language inquiries only).
