Kyoto City Makes "Kyoto Sakura Map 2010" Distributed at City Hall and Tourist Information Centers
Kyoto City has published 400,000 copies of "Kyoto Sakura Map 2010," a booklet introducing approximately 40 cherry blossom-viewing points in the city and information on special events such as illumination locations.
This year, viewing spots in historic sites of the last days of the Edo Period and the early Meiji Restoration, such as Mibu-dera Temple and Takasegawa River, are featured in connection with "Ryoma-den," a year-long historical drama series broadcast on NHK. The booklet introduces their histories and access information, as well as surrounding landmarks, with maps.
The booklet also includes an article contributed by Yukihiko Kimura, chief curator at Ryozen Museum of History to introduce the episode where Ryoma came across a group of warriors searching for "Roshi," or samurai without masters, when he viewed cherry blossoms in Arashiyama. "Kyoto Sakura Map 2010" is distributed free of charge at the Kyoto City Hall, ward offices, tourist information centers and other locations.
