"Otsu Machi-naka Illuminations," or a city-wide illumination event, is being held in the central area of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. One main street and the lakeside area are colored with bands of light, delighting the eyes of visiting people.

The event has been held for the last three years and is a part of "Otsu Machi-naka Shoku to Akari no Matsuri," or the city's food and light festival. It is organized by an executive committee that includes local community associations and shopping district associations. An area roughly two-kilometers in length, including Chuo-o-dori central street starting from JR Otsu Station and the lakeside area near Biwako Hall, has been illuminated with about 350,000 electric bulbs.
