Step onto Train and into Arashiyama
Direct Sightseeing Train from March 19

Hankyu Corporation will run a direct rapid-express train called "Kyo Train," or Kyoto train, for Kyoto sightseeing between Umeda and Arashiyama Stations from March 19. This train has been remodeled into Kyoto style and has no interior advertisements. From the moment visitors enter, their feeling of anticipation for Kyoto sightseeing is enhanced.

A single six-car train, which has been renovated from the express trains in the 6300 Series, will be run on Saturdays and holidays. One run takes about 51 minutes. The sightseeing train departs from Umeda Station at 9:51a.m. via Juso and Awaji Stations and stops at each station from Katsura Station. The return train departs from Arashiyama Station at 4:38p.m.

Two of the six carriages have been designed from the image of "Machiya," or Kyoto's traditional townhouses. There are 38 seats arranged face–to-face for two or four people, with parts of the backrests made from the outer layer of tatami mats. Wooden handrails and the wood-grain ceilings give these carriages a relaxing atmosphere. There are lattice-shaped partitions around the doors, similar to the entrance of a Kyoto Machiya.

Based on the Japanese-modern style, the other four carriages have 52 to 56 seats in each car, which are decorated with designs from Kyoto-made traditional paper called "Kyo Karakami," including "Ran no Hana Chirashi," or scattered orchid flowers, and "Asa no Ha," or hemp leaves. The train announcements will be broadcast for foreign visitors in three languages: English, Chinese and Korean; furthermore, Kyoto sightseeing guides have been published in each language.

After the train schedule is revised on May 14, Kyo Train will make four round trips a day between Umeda and Kawaramachi Stations on Saturdays and holidays.
