Solar Term-Themed Tourism Release
From Keifuku Electric Railroad

The Keifuku Electric Railroad Company of Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, has created a pamphlet that introduces sayings and Kyoto attractions relating to the "Daikan," or major cold and "Risshun," or start of spring, solar terms.

The pamphlet is part of an effort to offer solar term-themed tourist information aimed at invigorating tourism in the off-season. It introduces various things including the saying that water drawn in the mornings of the Major Cold term does not spoil, which means that sake and miso are made in this time, as well as the Matsuo Grand Shrine in Nishikyo Ward, which is known for the god of sake.

Shrines to visit on the Setsubun festival to avert bad luck are also featured. The 10,000 copies of the pamphlet produced have been distributed to the four main stations on the Arashiyama line including Shijo-Omiya Station, as well as to Kyoto hotels and tourist information centers.
