Buddhist Vegetarian Cuisine's Image "Yuba Curry" Sold at Daigo-ji Temple's Sanboin
A store in the world heritage site Daigo-ji Temple's Sanboin, in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, has been selling retort-pouch curry named "Gozan Yuba Curry," or curry with dried bean curd of Daigo-ji Temple, which is representative of "Shojin Ryori," or Buddhist vegetarian cuisine.
They paid attention to the fact that "Yuba" is used for rolled sushi, a specialty of the teahouse in the precincts. The health-oriented product is composed mainly of Yuba and vegetables, and finished with a soft texture and spicy flavor.
As there are many designated National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, including the "Five-storied Pagoda" built in 951, in Daigo-ji Temple, the store staff said, "We want visitors to enjoy a taste with as much depth as Daigo-ji Temple's history." A single serving costs 600 yen. For more information, call the temple's store at 075-571-0112.
