Tram Dashing towards Spring
Service Resumes at Hozukyo Gorge

The Sagano Scenic Railway's sight-seeing tram, which connects Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, and Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, along Hozukyo Gorge, resumed service on March 1, after two-month interval. Passengers, including parents with their children and other sightseers, boarded and the tram started its runs through the valley awaiting spring.

One hundred and eight passengers, including local kindergarteners, got on the first tram that leaves shortly after 9:00 a.m. In the relatively warm weather, the children cheered as the tram passed over iron bridges spanning the valley and roared through tunnels. A five-year-old kindergartner said in a cheerful voice, "Today I rode the tram for the first time. The river view was pretty, and I enjoyed the tunnels."

While the tram was out of operation this winter, the Saga Torokko Station and Kameoka Station underwent renovation, such as broadening the platforms and increasing the number of bathrooms. There is no service on Wednesdays; however, it will run daily during the tourism season.
