Aiming to create a network of cities, towns, villages and related organizations

Kyoto Prefecture will establish the Prefectural Association for Internationalization (tentative name, the association will be established as a foundation) to serve as the central organization for international interaction in the prefecture. A network will be created to provide information to foreigners residing in the prefecture, to groups involved in international activities, and to Kyoto Prefecture's municipalities. The association will also support the international cooperation efforts of the people of Kyoto Prefecture and sponsor events to promote international interaction. Last April, Kyoto Prefecture created the Kyoto Prefecture Plan for Internationalization, a guideline for the promotion of the internationalization of the prefecture in preparation for the 21st century. With a primary objective of "The creation of a region in which we can live together with people from around the world," the Prefectural Association for Internationalization was established as the central force for the promotion of the internationalization plan. The association will introduce the Japanese people to international interaction projects and facilities as well as to group activities. For foreigners, the association will provide tourism information and information about daily life, volunteer activities, etc., all in English. According to the Kyoto Prefecture International Division, an important aspect of the association will be the creation of a network linking the over 300 groups and organizations involved in international activities in the prefecture with the international activities of the prefecture's municipalities. |
