Help sponsor young people in the Philippines who are attending college night courses! A group of businessmen in the south of Kyoto Prefecture have formed the "Japan-Philippine Night College Scholarship Society," a volunteer group that provides support for students attending night classes at De La Salle University in Manila, and the organization is currently seeking new members. The dues the society collects is sent to the Philippines as a scholarship fund, helping to promote grass roots diplomacy. The society is very eager to help foster the skilled personnel that will become the leaders of the Philippines in the 21st century.
The society was established in February 1996 by eight original members, businessman Hiroshi Nakajima (52) of Uji City and five other Japanese, including teaching staff from Joyo City and company workers from Tanabe-cho in Tsuzuki-gun (Kyoto Prefecture), and two assistant professors in Manila. All of the annual dues of \12,000 (\1000 per month) collected from society members is allocated for scholarships. The society's current goal is to be able to pay one year's tuition for approximately 40 students who will be entering the college at the beginning of the new school year this coming June, a total of \1,500,000. For more information about the society, please contact Hiroshi Hakajima of Makishima-cho in Uji City at (0774) 23-2598. |
